Outer Banks Vacation Destination - Corolla, North Carolina
One place to consider during your Outer Banks vacation is Corolla. Corolla North Carolina is an unincorporated community. It is part of the Poplar Branch Township and is situated on the northern Outer Banks. Corolla is known for beautiful beaches, Spanish Mustangs and historic landmarks. More than 100 wild Spanish Mustang horses live north of the town and there is even a Wild Horse museum where you can learn more about them. If you’re lucky you may see one or more of these wild horses roaming on the beach!
Two places of historical interest in the Corolla area are the Whalehead Club and the Currituck Lighthouse.
The Whalehead Club was built in the 1920’s as a winter residence and it uses an Art nouveau architectural style. There you’ll find exquisite features like Tiffany lamps and water lily bathroom hardware. A 21,000 square foot private residence is a sight to see and it’s been restored to some of it’s earlier glory by a restoration project. It is quite impressive even today.
The Currituck Lighthouse was built in 1875 as one of seven North Carolina Coastal lighthouses. It is a lot of fun to climb to the top of the lighthouse where you can get quite a view of the Currituck Sound and the surrounding area. Kids of all ages love the romance of a lighthouse.
